Donavon Soumas has been leading Centenary UMC’s music ministry since 2015. During his tenure, he has coordinated musical selections and performed during weekly worship services, has led and helped grow the Centenary UMC Choir, and has directed many special musical events, including the annual Christmas Cantata. Donavon has played an integral role while directing the musical efforts in Centenary UMC’s successful Vacation Bible School.

Donavon’s love for music began in the church when he was 4-years-old, hearing the choir for the first time. For his 13th birthday, his parents surprised him by giving him a piano and piano lessons, and he was on his way. Born in a military family, he was exposed to many different styles and genres of music by his father during his youth.

Donavon earned his undergraduate degree from Centenary College (Louisiana), where he studied music, specializing in vocal pedagogy and piano. He received his master’s degree in educational leadership and human development from The George Washington University, and is presently pursuing his doctorate from the University of New England.

Donavon is on the faculty at Manhattan Country School, where he serves as choral conductor.
