MUSIC MINISTRY

Our Music Ministry at Centenary UMC is led by our Director of Music Ministry Donavon Soumas.


The Chancel Choir meets on Sunday mornings.

Donavon Soumas is the Director of Music Ministry/Choir Director. Donavon, brings 30 years of experience as a musician, director and educator to his new role.

Donavon is currently the Choral Director of the Upper School at Manhattan Country School in New York, and also Music Educator and Music Program Director at the Lord Stirling School in Basking Ridge. He is the owner and director of the Soumas Heritage School of Music in Plainfield, offering music lessons to children and adults. Donavon is also the founder and director of H.E.R.I.T.A.G.E., Inc. (Helping to Enhance Resources by Incorporating The Arts to Gain Education), also in Plainfield.

Donavon has served in music ministries at the Covenant United Methodist Church (Plainfield), Shiloh Baptist Church (Plainfield), and the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens (Somerset). He has also worked with the renowned Newark Boys’ Chorus.

Donavon is a graduate of Centenary College in Shreveport, La., with a Bachelor of Music degree. A resident of Keyport, Donavon is also a Music Advisory Board Member of the Westminster Choir/College of the Arts of Rider University.
